4/16/2018 Happy 82 Sir Fazle

Belt Road historyBangladesh drew short straw of coonisation
- by UK to 1946 then by (West) Pakistan
Finally free nation in 1971- it was world's poorest large (8th most) populous nation

vast majority lived in villages ie spaces withg no electricity; with China, Bangladesh

desperately needed a community networking solution to ending death of 10% of mothers and children by famine.. and in Bangladesh's case 20% more infants death by diarrhea

BRAC's Sir Fazle Abed (changed his life 1972 from ceo of Shell) to empowering village mothers to develop rural nation starting with 100 square mile
area flattened by a cyclone that had killed half a million people. by 2018 brac has 140 million alumni -
can you help us learn the steps he took in grassroot village networking - the greatest end poverty and sustainability goals solutions
jargon watch - sevrive marlets depend on repliocating franchsie soluitions so team anmates them energetiocally 24/7
the western world is uded to macrofranchsioes eg mcdonalds- but design needed for MF (microfranchsioes) can require
just as much iteration but now the positive inclome bsuones smodel goes to team/ local community not sucked out by global owners

Rebuilding 100 square miles of village destoyed by nature

Peer training by most skilled

   often combination of  MF needed to redesigb whole value chain leadership (in trust for poorest) edutech and edutech*fintech models to come - hopefully during 3 wise summits: ACCRa UN and Paris befpre Beijings next meeting of 100 leaders to discuss belt road ma2019 .............................................................

 First nationwide life critical lesson - rural rehydration;

replication across every vilage mother took multiple concept

iteration .............................................''''

first sustainable

microfranchise MF:

 Adult literacy classes -->

trained up village teachers: age of

primary students starts to come down;

within a decade rural primary above standard of gov run city primary

 total bottom up finacial services chain- reinvention of aid around sustanable charities and give directly channels - eg secomdary scholarships for girls

 Partnershoips with region's most urgent innovations-

eg rice science to end famine

  barefoot rights and bankers in vilage - needed eg to assure land rights has vilage recovers first 25 yeras to 1996 - all 1 to 1 networking since no electricity, no telecoms moble and microsolar partnershipos offer chnace to leapfrom with fintech, edutech and multipliersBrac develops bkash to be world's largest cash;ess bank

back in 1970 a million people were killed by probably the most localised cyclone ever seen (it happened in bangladesh, at that time it was an unusual climate crisis) ; .......................................................................................................................................

maybe hundred square miles that due to british raj (aka destruction of marco polo's silk road) and then pakistani colonisation had never been connected by electricity --now was completely flattened in a place then called east pakistan but soon to fight to be known as bangladesh
- a young man who had just been appointed by an oil company =shell's national ceo for east pakistan - happened to get caught up in this crisis, his diary mentions a day of walking through a field of more bodies than even the worst ever war zone; what actually happened next

 a war of independence started - so he went back to london sold everything he had and in 1972 started a grassroots network (brac bangladesh rural advancement committee -no tech, all one to one people connecting what skills they could train each other in) living in the middle of this space with next to nothing other than people desperately trying to survive

fortunately in starting up the most empowering jobs-enriching educational space the low tech world would ever see, sir fazle abed had 3 things going for him; he knew how to develop project teams; he was trusted by the global relief agencies  to apply their funds to a local region they had no ability to reach;
and he read the franciscan educators book pedagogy of the oppressed by paulo freire; (for those interested in polar belt road sir fazle was probably the only bangladesh leader ever to graduate from a university above 55 north, and certainly the only one to study naval architecture)

44 years later at sir fazle's 80th birthday what could 2 chinese female graduates (one her nation's first wise learners alumni, one from maos villages) see as part of their exploration of girls lift up half the sky and girls belt road imagineering

Diary: new banking 1 2; new uni 1 arctic (A B) and new  educataion 1 2; new silk roads
